At Circulation Health, we stock Level 1 and Level 2 grade compression stockings. If you have undergone a procedure with us for your varicose veins, you will be required to wear a Level 2 compression.
Compression stockings, also known as DVT stockings or anti-embolism stockings, are a medical garment designed with a defined pressure gradient. They are designed to squeeze the muscles and veins of your legs, to encourage blood flow from the legs back to the heart.
Patients with diagnosed venous disease greatly benefit from wearing compression stockings. Once assessed, a script for the appropriate level of compression garment will be issued.
Our stockings are made with an “energised Lycra” which make them easier to put on compared to other stockings, especially for people with swollen ankles. One of the unique qualities in our stockings is the use of sanitised silver which has antimicrobial properties. The sanitised silver is applied directly to the surface of the textile fibres where bacteria and fungi proliferate.
We can also arrange custom-made support/compression stockings specific to your needs.
You are required to wear your stockings for 2 full weeks.
Week 1
Leave them on 24/7 - this includes sleeping with them and showering.
You can protect them from getting wet whilst showering by placing a waterproof bag over your leg(s), a garbage bag can work well. Please ensure you allow a little opening in the bag to push your foot through and pull the stocking(s) back to the ankle, this will prevent you from slipping in the shower. If your stocking(s) happens to get wet whilst showering, use a hair dryer to dry them.
Week 2
You are only required to wear them during the day.
Once you have completed all your activities for the day and are ready to retire to the lounge for the evening, remove your stocking(s), shower and enjoy the freedom till the next morning. Once you are up the next day you are required to put the stocking back on and continue this till the second week is up.
If removing and putting on your stocking(s) every day would be too difficult, it is okay to just leave them on 24/7 for the second week.
Ensure there are no creases in the stockings when in use or any tight bands.
Use the satin slip, that comes with your stockings, to help get them on. A pair of ordinary kitchen gloves can also help.
Be patient and work them up slowly little bits at a time. Trying to pull them up in one go will not work and you will work up a sweat making it even more difficult to get them on.
When washing your stockings, just a simple hand wash with warm soapy water is enough. Alternatively, you can place them in a wash bag in the washing machine but please don’t use fabric softener as this ruins the elasticity of the stockings and will shorten their lifespan.
