As Head of the Vascular Unit for the Illawarra Shoalhaven Health District, Dr Bullen is a leader in the field of vascular surgery, offering expert care for a wide range of arterial and venous conditions.
Dr Bullen's clinical expertise spans several key areas, including comprehensive diabetic foot care, minimally invasive treatment of varicose veins, carotid artery treatment and minimally invasive aortic aneurysm repair.
His practice is dedicated to providing innovative, patient-focused treatments for both common and complex vascular issues.
After completing his training in Sydney, Andrew gained further experience nationally and internationally experienced at some of the world's most prestigious vascular and trauma centres, undertaking a travelling fellowship in the Department of Angiology in Germany. Andrew is also a dedicated academic, serving as an Associate Lecturer and Examiner at the University of New South Wales and contributing to the University of Sydney's Masters of Surgery Program. He is a key figure in training the next generation of vascular surgeons, frequently overseeing clinical training, and mentoring future specialists. His involvement in the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons examination committee, further highlights his dedication to advancing surgical education.
Dr Bullen's interests in the development of new, less invasive, and biological treatment options have led to research opportunities internationally. He believes in fostering a strong, collaborative relationship between patients and their General Practitioners to ensure a comprehensive and lasting healthcare experience. His approach goes beyond treatment, focusing on long term wellness and patient-centred care.
Alley has over 28 years of nursing experience and also holds a position of Clinical Nurse Specialist in Vascular Surgery at Wollongong Hospital. Alley is available to provide patients with all their pre-operative education, post-operative care, wound checks and dressing changes, and compression-stocking fittings. Alley has a Macedonian background and is able to assist Macedonian patients with limited English.
Tayla is a registered nurse with eight years of comprehensive clinical experience spanning operating theatres and cosmetic aesthetics. Her background has equipped her with a strong foundation in surgical support, patient assessment, and evidence-based care.
She offers a range of specialised services, including advanced cosmetic laser treatments, professional compression-stocking fittings, thorough wound assessments, aseptic dressing changes, and attentive post-operative care. Tayla is committed to delivering safe, compassionate, and personalised treatment experiences tailored to each patient’s needs.
Joanne (Jo) has over 40 years’ experience in the Healthcare Industry. Jo is one of our first team members and has been here at Circulation Health since inception and commencement of the Practice. She has a wealth of knowledge and expertise in various medical roles: Enrolled Nurse, Phlebotomy, establishing Specialty Medical Practices, Management and Practice Administration. Jo has developed relationships with Allied Health, Hospital personnel, and countless health specialities that are essential components to a smooth and coordinated patient journey.
Jane has worked in the healthcare industry for over 40 years and most recently in health administration at Wollongong Hospital operating theatres. She can help direct and advise our patients on several factors relating to their surgical journey and/or care.
Her 30 years of experience in the medical field have allowed Jessica to work with a range of Practitioners, ranging from GPs, Specialists, Allied Health and Wellness Practitioners. With practice management, opening of medical centres in five Australian states and territories, project management, developing medical software, developing policies and procedures for medical centres, training and assessment of practice teams, Jessica aims to continuously improve the flow of the practice, in the position as personal assistant to Dr Andrew Bullen.
With more than 20 years of experience in the health sector, Kim is deeply committed to advancing patient care and fostering community wellbeing. She holds a Bachelor of Social Science with a major in Health Promotion and is dedicated to improving patient outcomes through education, empowerment, and authentic engagement. Kim strives to build supportive environments where every individual feels heard, valued, and confident in their health journey.
Peter completed his graduate diploma in vascular ultrasound in 2015. Working in the public and private health sector for over 20 years, he has valuable insight into patient presentations and is dedicated to a high standard of patient diagnosis and care. Sonographic interests include the extra and intra-cranial arterial systems. Peter’s passion for vascular ultrasound is reflected in his involvement in research projects, evidence-based practice, and staff training and development. This is also evident when working at the university lecturing and examining the new generation of vascular sonographers. When he steps away from his career he enjoys all things sun, surf, and family.
Alex has invaluable experience with a wide variety of ultrasound studies through working as a general sonographer for the last 8 years. Over the last 12 months she has been enthusiastic and determined to upskill and specialise in vascular specific studies. It has not taken long for Alex to fit in well at Circulation Health, showing commitment and care to her patients by ensuring accurate diagnosis and assessment.
Lauren is an experienced vascular sonographer with more than 20 years in the field. She enjoys all aspects of vascular sonography and loves working as a part of the team to ensure great patient outcomes. Lauren is also passionate about contributing to the broader sonography community.
An active member of the local branch of the Australian Sonographers Association, Lauren has served as chairperson for over 10 years, advocating for professional development and excellence within the industry. Through her career, she has worked across both public and private healthcare sectors. She values the complex and acute nature of public hospital work, while also appreciating the continuity of care and ongoing patient relationships offered in private practice.
Lauren is grateful to be part of the caring and dedicated team at Circulation Health, where she continues to provide high-quality vascular imaging and compassionate patient care.
Ashleigh is an ASAR accredited sonographer specialising in vascular imaging, with a focus on delivering high-quality, patient-focused care. She began her ultrasound career in 2016 and has supervised and trained student sonographers, contributing to the development of future professionals in the field. Outside of work, she enjoys climbing, hiking, and cooking.
Bree grew up in country Victoria and after graduating with a Bachelor of Science with Honours (Psycho-physiology) at Swinburne University, Bree moved to Wollongong to pursue her interest in Vascular Ultrasound. Bree has been practicing as an accredited vascular sonographer for over 6 years and is an active member of ASAR, ASA and ASUM. She has a keen interest in kidney transplants and arteriovenous fistulas, from the initial diagnostic mapping to the post-operative scans.
Renee developed an interest in diagnostic ultrasound during her work as a medical researcher. She began her ultrasound career in vascular ultrasound before continuing to pursue General ultrasound and now enjoys the variety of both disciplines. She has over 8 years of scanning experience and is committed to a high standard of scanning and patient care.
